“What is a PAC?”
Paid for with funds of the Iowa Nurses Political Action Committee

History of Iowa Nurses Political Action Committee

INPAC stands for the Iowa Nurses’ Political Action Committee. INPAC was organized in 1982 to inform members, solicit contributions from Iowa Nurses Association members and contribute to state candidates whose stances are favorable toward, and who expressed a desire to support issues important to the nursing profession.

Responsibilities of the INPAC

The primary responsibility of the PAC is to raise funds and to distribute the funds to candidates favorable to nursing policy issues. The pooling of small individual contributions into a larger donation demonstrates the power of acting as a group with a common interest to support a candidate.

The INPAC works closely with the INA Public Policy Committee to identify the key nursing issues and provide information to the INA members regarding those issues in an effort to better address those issues with their state elected officials as well as those seeking office. Candidates seeking INA endorsement need to complete a questionnaire and be interviewed by an INA member(s).

PAC Contribution Priority

Contribution decisions are made by the INPAC; a six-member NURSE committee nominated by the INA Nominating Committee and elected by the INA membership to serve staggered three-year terms. The main objective of the INPAC is to help elect candidates who support NURSING issues. INAPAC supports:

    1. INA Members who run/serve in the Iowa General Assembly or State Office.
    2. INA Friends of Nursing awardees who are incumbents
    3. Legislative Leadership
    4. Political Party Committees
    5. Administrative Rules Committee legislators
    6. Committee Chairs who act on nursing and health issues
    7. Legislators who are licensed health providers but not nurses
    8. Positive Key Votes on nursing and health issues
    9. Candidates who complete a favorable questionnaire and are recommended by INA members
